A 15 point game is very different from a 35 point game and it really pushes you to play at 50 points. Since I don't plan on buying a whole lot more Relic Knights at the moment, it is good to hear that I don't have to be in a rush to do so. Even if those 2 knight games are tempting!

My Marie-Claude is sadly on the softer side of detail, but I figure if I can make HeroQuest minis work, I can think I can make her work. It would be a labor of love in any case.

And I definitely agree with the "choose the coolest models" method of collecting. I'm waiting for Rin Farrah and Suicide Queen, and Betty and Lug are on the list as well. For Black Diamond I'm looking at the Suspect 7 and Diamondback models. It's hard to not just buy everything, since it all looks so good!TheUndergroundLairhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03064647185319703154noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6273377239563794382.post-78390485476934551202014-10-28T12:09:31.324-04:002014-10-28T12:09:31.324-04:00Hi there! I'm glad we could give you that last little push towards picking up RK, as it's a pretty fun game. We've gotten in a number of games at the 27 point size, plus two slightly higher ones with an actual Relic Knight on each size. One thing that we noticed was that the game seems to scale well with more points, ie: it doesn't necessarily add a ton of time to the game when adding points. It's helpful that the game system's so quick to begin with, though it does take a bit of time (for us anyway) to shed some of the conventions from other minis games (squads being a big example).

While it's really nice that they include the quick-start rulebook I do really wish they had something, anything, in that box to even just give some more background about your faction. The main rulebook's awesome with great art, and some really fantastic fluff so it's a worthwhile investment but I wish more of that could have been included in the quick start. I also definitely agree with your point about the mini details: as they're kind of all over the place. Some of the boxes seem to make it out better than others: my Black Diamond battle box was fine, but the Novitiates in my Doctrine box are a little soft. I've heard that Marie-Claude (and the Cersi box in general) can tend to trend towards that softer detail side. It definitely seems to be a problem mostly with their humans, though, so maybe it's something they'll be able to rectify going forwards.

All in all, though, it's a pretty great game. I'm still very early in collecting it myself, but right now I'm sticking to the "that looks cool, I must have it" approach, and I actually chose my demo forces specifically off how much I liked their Relic Knights (Doctrine, Black Diamond, and Noh Empire which sadly wasn't completed in time for VTCC). Thankfully, they were smart in packing multiple units together in some of the expansions so it should be easy (and relatively cheap) to pick up some of the things I want. In either case, I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on game play once you manage to get a few games in. Take care, and thanks for visiting us at VTCC!Stevehttp://www.brapsmagic.comnoreply@blogger.com
